If you take I-8 near San Diego you pass through many miles mountains. On the western side of them, overlooking the desert floor below, is Desert Tower.

Wednesday March 8th – Thursday, March 9th
My flight took off from Los Angeles at 10am Wednesday and arrived in Taipei, Taiwan at 5pm on Thursday, over 15 hours later. It’s a heck of a time change.
Monday, March 6th – Wednesday March 8th
My flight was Wednesday morning and I was scheduled to work Monday and Tuesday. So I booked a ridiculously expensive hotel near LAX and stayed there for a couple of days, as I will when I return. There’s not much to do in the area save pace nervously, make final arrangements with banks and other entities, and (fortunately for you) take pictures of airplanes.
Monday, February 20th – Sunday, March 5th
Two weeks in San Diego! Did I see all my old friends? Did I hang out and enjoy the beach? Well mainly I got over a cold and spent time hunting down last minute supplies and trying to figure out what and how to get to China. The first week I was in a hotel, and then the second week was staying with some wonderful friends who basically made the whole visit to China possible. And also attempted to shatter me.
Friday, December 9th
I originally had booked the room through Saturday morning, but since deciding that I was going to scooter home instead of sensibly spend a week in San Diego and fly back like a smart human, I had a lot of miles to cover. As I left Yucca Valley Friday after work I hoped to make it to Phoenix and then spend two days driving and see how far I got by Sunday night. It’s over 2,000 miles from Southern California to Ohio, so I wasn’t going to make it back this weekend, but I was hoping to get a big chunk of that done. I also knew I was going to take interstate 10 across since the more direct 40 went through places like Flagstaff and Amarillo which were showing snow and ice. My normal “avoid highways” plan wasn’t going to cut it; I was hoping to do this in two weekends with maybe taking one day between them.
A solid evening of driving would give me a good head start, so I packed up and headed out into the desert.
Thursday, December 8th
I only have two pictures but I’m still devoting an entire post to THE INTEGRATRON!
Wednesday, December 7th
It was time to visit Joshua Tree National Park for the last time on this trip.
Monday, December 5th
Monday night I scootered out to visit the famous UFO haven: Giant Rock. This was a terrible idea.
Saturday, December 3rd
Saturday I booked for travel and a little shopping. I knew I wanted to stop by Chaparrals again on my way back out to the desert, and I also knew Big Bear Lake was sort of on the way. Seems like a logical detour to take!
